The Jack surname has a long and varied story. Our Society supports ongoing research into where the name came from, how it spread and how different Jack families connect to one another.

The name Jack appears in Scottish records primarily in the lowlands, including Aberdeen and Fife. In some cases it may derive from the French name Jacques, brought through Norman or later migration. Over time different lines adopted the name, intermarried and moved to new regions.
